Kothagudem: The three-day strike called by Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SCCL trade unions was a success on the first day on Thursday as workers abstained from work on the day.
The JAC comprising trade unions like TBGKS, AITUC, INTUC, BMS and CITU called for the strike in protest against the Central government’s decision to auction four coal blocks under the limits of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).
Over 95 percent of employees participated in the strike since the first shift. The JAC leaders staged a protest in front of the SCCL corporate office here demanding the Centre to stop auctioning of the coal blocks.
Similar protests were staged at Yellandu, Manugur, Tekulapalli and Sathupalli areas in erstwhile Khammam district. The employees took out protest and bike rallies in all the areas.
Speaking to the media, the JAC leaders said that there had been a proposal to allot the four coal blocks to the SCCL. The company also conducted a survey accordingly and sent reports to the Central government. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao also made a similar appeal to the Centre.
But the derelict Centre had deliberately decided to auction KK-6, Sattupalli Block-3, Sravanapalli and KVC Block-3. The Coal Mines Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) also recommended allocating these blocks to Singareni, the JAC leaders said.
