Pandemic to be under control in Telangana in 10 days: DPH
As part of containing the spread of Covid infections, the state government will launch a unique Covid vaccination drive between May 28 and May 30, exclusively for individuals who fall under high-risk groups
Hyderabad: Covid-19 positive cases in Telangana are steadily on the decline and the pandemic will be under control in a week to ten days.
“By the end of June, we are anticipating to fully come out of the second wave of the pandemic along with other States like Delhi and Maharashtra,” Director of Public Health (DPH) Dr G Srinivasa Rao, said while interacting with press persons here on Wednesday.
“New infections, positivity rate and fatalities are gradually coming down. Our observations indicate that severe Covid positive cases are recovering quickly and there is also a drop in severity of Covid infections. Overall, things are looking positive for Telangana,” he said.
In the last few weeks, the country has witnessed a shift in the pandemic from urban pockets to rural areas. However, this has not been the case in Telangana because the State government had, well in advance, taken up door-to-door fever surveys in districts and Covid outpatient services in government hospitals.
“As a result of such innovative measures, Covid positive cases in rural areas were identified on time,” Dr Rao pointed out.
Special vaccination drive for high-risk groups
As part of containing the spread of Covid infections, the state government will launch a unique Covid vaccination drive between May 28 and May 30, exclusively for individuals who fall under high-risk groups.
The authorities have identified about 7,75,000 workers in small and medium enterprises like kirana shops, fair price shops, fruit and vegetable markets, journalists, LPG cylinder delivery staff, workers at petrol pumps, private auto and cab drivers in areas under GHMC, vendors in rythu bazaars, liquor shops, non-vegetarian markets. “More than 10 government departments will work in coordination to make this special drive to vaccinate high-risk groups a success,” he said.
The health department will also administer the second dose of Covid vaccine to eligible persons above 45 years and by the month’s end, intends to administer the second dose of Covaxin to about three lakh beneficiaries.
Post Covid OPs
The health department will hold exclusive post-Covid outpatient facilities to individuals who have recovered recently at all government hospitals across Telangana. These OPs will provide long term healthcare facilities including consultations from doctors from multiple health disciplines to patients suffering from health complications after recovering from Covid. Senior health officials have also urged private hospitals to explore alternatives to Amphotericin-B.
“There is nationwide shortage of production of Amphotericin-B injections and we should understand that it’s not easy to increase the production quickly. I urge doctors to explore alternatives to Amphotericin-B, which are also effective,” said Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr K Ramesh Reddy.
