Mancherial: Parents of three students who reportedly fell ill after consuming insect-infested food at a government-run hostel in Mancherial expressed anger on Monday over what they alleged was an attempt by officials to suppress the incident. The students are undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital.
Speaking to the media, the parents alleged that the officials deliberately concealed the food poisoning incident involving Tharuni, a Class VIII student, and two Class VI students, Alakananda and Revanthi, all of whom took ill after consuming food served at a hostel run by the Tribal Welfare Department. They questioned why the authorities had failed to inform them about their children’s condition and demanded action against officials for hiding the episode.
However, Collector Kumar Deepak, in a press statement, clarified that only two students, Tharuni and Revathi, were suffering from fever and tonsillitis, and were receiving treatment at the Mother and Child Hospital in Mancherial. He added that their condition was stable.
The Collector also stated that certain individuals were spreading misinformation and attempting to create panic. He cautioned that action would be taken against those circulating baseless and false news and urged people to verify facts before drawing conclusions.
