Police determined to root out human trafficking: Adilabad ASP
He said that an action plan was prepared for abolishing the menace and added that an Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, led by an Inspector and special coordinating committee were created for accomplishing the goal
ASP Srinivas Rao address officials and members of a coordinating committee during a meeting held in Adilabad on Thursday.
Adilabad: Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) V Srinivas Rao said that laws against human trafficking were strictly implemented to eradicate the social menace.
Addressing a coordination meeting with officials concerned here on Thursday, Srinivas Rao said the district police mechanism was determined to root out the menace of human trafficking in the district and was enforcing relevant laws. He said that an action plan was prepared for abolishing the menace and added that an Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, led by an Inspector and special coordinating committee were created for accomplishing the goal. “The district-level committee will curb the menace by forming a special intelligence system, with the help of insights of public prosecutors Gungura Bhadradri and Musku Ramana Reddy. Headed by an Inspector, the committee would consist of two Sub-Inspectors or two ASIs. Certain persons were making fast bucks by indulging in human trafficking” the ASP said.
He further stated that the committee would prevent offences such as child labour, child marriages, human trafficking, prostitution, bonded labour and forcing children to become farm labourers and maids. Poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, gender discrimination,etc, were causes of the human trafficking, he stated, adding only stringent action could eradicate the menace.
Ramana Reddy underlined the need to sensitise public that human trafficking is a serious crime. He stressed that awareness must be created among the victims of the menace, besides raising the understanding of the community.
The public prosecutor opined that investigating officials play a vital role in annihilating the menace. He sought cooperation of officials belonging to Sakhi centre, SHE teams, voluntary organisations and authorities of the child protection department. He added that steps could be taken for taking stern action against perpetrators after booking cases under relevant sections.
