Visakhapatnam: The Pay Revision Commission (PRC) row in Andhra Pradesh remains unresolved with the State government employees intensifying their agitation day by day. They are participating in thousands in the districts and are gearing up to take part in the `Chalo Vijayawada’ rally scheduled for February 3 for which the RTC workers also announced their support.
The employees’ associations’ joint action committee (JAC) chairman Bopparaju Venkateswarlu who was in the city on Saturday to address the third day of relay fasts by government staff, reiterated their stand and said that they would attend talks with the government only after their demands are met–withdrawal of the three GOs on PRC, making public the Ashutosh Misra Committee report and payment of old salaries.
Addressing the relay fast camp, he alleged that what they had accepted in the joint staff council was different from what the government had announced. He also found fault with the group of ministers who claimed that they were getting new salaries only because they did not attend the talks. “Why are they not replying to memoranda we had submitted to them? We want talks on PC, HRA and CPS but they are not talking about it and so the employees are losing faith in the government,” he said.
Venkateswarlu also noted that the Mishra committee had recommended an increase in pay scales and wondered how the salary could be increased unless the pay scales are fixed. At the January 7 meeting, he said the government did not discuss the issues but made an announcement reducing the fitment.
Never before did such a thing happen and the government should pay what is due to the employees. The Government had withheld Rs.10,000 crore payable as the employees’ benefits, he alleged, and said lakhs of employees would attend the `Chalo Vijayawada’ programme on Feb. 3.
