Quarry Durga Devi Jatara celebrated in Mancherial
Nearly 20,000 devotees from Mancherial town, Mandamarri, Bellampalli, Ramakrishnapur, Srirampur, Luxettipet towns, several mandals of the district and neighbouring districts joined the celebrations.
Mancherial: Devotees thronged the Sri Durga Devi temple at an abandoned quarry owned by the Mancherial Cement Company (MCC) near Gadpur village as part of the Bonalu celebrations on Sunday.
Nearly 20,000 devotees from Mancherial town, Mandamarri, Bellampalli, Ramakrishnapur, Srirampur, Luxettipet towns, several mandals of the district and neighbouring districts made a beeline to the holy site. They worshipped the deity by performing special prayers and offering chickens and goats as a token of gratitude for the well-being of their family members.
After visiting the temple, the devotees, their relatives and friends got together on the premises of the holy place and under the surrounding trees for dining and wining till evening. They cooked various dishes and relished them in the lap of nature. Then they visited a children’s park and indulged in shopping for toys for their children. The shrine came alive with the arrival of thousands of devotees.
Elaborate arrangements were made by the management of MCC formerly known as ACC. Barricades were erected for crowd control and traffic management, while drinking water facilities and toilets were arranged. The medical department had set up a stall to provide health services. Necessary security measures were taken by the administration to avoid untoward incidents.
