Hyderabad: Telangana NRIs led by BRS NRI wing in the United Kingdom staged a peaceful protest in London, denouncing the ‘undemocratic and anarchic’ rule of the Congress government in Telangana for the last 22 months.
The protest was held at the Gandhi statue near Tavistock Square, and was led by BRS NRI-UK president Naveen Reddy and attended by BRS supporters from across the UK.
Participants paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and observed two minutes of silence for martyrs before displaying placards demanding the implementation of the six guarantees and 420 poll promises made by the Congress. Slogans were raised to “Save Farmers, Save Kaleshwaram, Save Hyderabad, and Save Telangana”.
BRS NRI wing founder president Anil Kurmachalam said the Congress had betrayed the people and destroyed the State in every sector. Lamenting that if Telangana flourished under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s rule, he said it was facing decline under the Congress regime now. The Congress government was burdening the State with huge debts, neglecting farmers, while targeting the opposition and ignoring governance.
Naveen Reddy said the Congress has taken Telangana backward with corruption and misgovernance. He stated that NRIs would now launch a “Raise Your Voice” campaign to expose the government’s failures through mainstream and social media platforms.
Vice president Hari Goud Navapet said Telangana’s pride was being eroded under the Congress and emphasised the need for Chandrashekhar Rao’s return. Vice president Satyamurthy Chilumula urged voters to teach a lesson to the Congress in the upcoming byelections, while vice president Ravi Rethineni stated that a dictatorial regime was stifling dissent in the State.
Advisory Board vice chairman Ganesh Kuppala said that while Chandrashekhar Rao once made Telangana a global model for investment, the Congress has set back the State’s progress by 20 years.
The event saw participation from BRS NRI leaders including Malla Reddy, Suresh Gopathi, Abdul Jaffer, and several others from across the UK.
