Warangal: Hyderabad-based human rights lawyer Rama Rao Immaneni has moved the TGSHRC over rodent infestation at Chanda Kantha Memorial (CKM) Government Hospital in Warangal.
The hospital has come under intense criticism after rats were found roaming freely inside the maternity and paediatric wards. A distressing video posted on social media, showing rats roaming inside the incubator ward, has gone viral, he said.
The rodent infestation has reportedly led to injuries to newborn babies and new mothers, raising serious questions about hospital safety and hygiene. Families of patients alleged that rats move openly across beds, corridors and even near infants’ cradles.
Despite repeated complaints, no concrete action seems to have been taken. The TGSHRC took cognisance of human rights violations and registered a case in HRC Case No 3786/36/31/2025. Rama Rao urged the commission to direct Health Secretary Christina Z Chongtu to take up an enquiry into rodent infestation and laxity on the part of private agencies hired for housekeeping.
The lawyer sought better medical care for the victims apart from compensation.
