Hyderabad: The Students Federation of India (SFI) Telangana on Tuesday condemned the pre-emptive arrests of its activists, calling it an undemocratic act by the Telangana Congress government.
In a statement, SFI Telangana president RL Murthy and general T Nagaraju accused the State government of violating their fundamental right using detention as a tool to suppress the dissent against the auction of 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli abutting University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus.
A peaceful protest against the crackdown on students on the UoH campus was called, however, the police pre-arrested 298 SFI activists from Monday night itself, the SFI said.
The students’ body called out the Congress government, stating that it had earlier said there would be no detentions under its rule and removed Pragati Bhavan fencing but now detained students for dissenting.
Murthy and Nagaraju demanded the government release arrested students and wanted the 400-acres of land to be registered in the name of the UoH.
