Siddipet: A colony with barely 25 houses in Gajwel town has ended up with six different names after residents split along caste lines, sparking sharp reactions from locals and civic officials alike.
The colony, located near Mutrajpally road, was developed as part of a real estate venture over the past decade. Initially, residents lived in unity and named it Vinaya Nagar a few years ago. However, divisions surfaced when one community installed a signboard naming the colony after their caste.
Efforts to resolve the issue through discussions among residents, and by approaching police, civic officials and local leaders, failed to yield consensus. As a result, people from other castes also erected their own boards.
Today, the colony entrance displays six different boards, Vinaya Nagar, Reddy Enclave, Arya Vysya Enclave, Vishwakarma Enclave, Yadav Enclave, and Mudiraj Enclave, reflecting the divisions.
Speaking to Telangana Today, a source said the dispute escalated when a community decided to celebrate a festival without involving others, leading to further rift. Neutral residents have since appealed to civic officials to remove all caste-based boards and rename the colony after a deity or freedom fighter to restore harmony.
Despite the controversy, officials are yet to intervene decisively, and the six boards remain standing, drawing widespread attention.
