Hyderabad: Six Sikh couples got married at a ‘Samuhik Vivah Samagam’ without spending a penny, that too in the presence of hundreds of Sikhs who came from different parts of the State to bless the newlywed at Gurudwara Baram Bala, Sikh Chawniat, Kishanbagh, on Sunday.
What made the occasion emotional was the happiness of economically struggling parents, many of whom never imagined they would witness their sons and daughters getting married in such a dignified and traditional manner without spending a single rupee, said a press release.
Held under the guidance of the Prabhandak Committee of Gurudwara Baram Bala, Sikh Chawniat, Kishanbagh, it had religious heads from Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib, Nanded, specially invited for the occasion and blessing the couples, most of whom hailed from Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Maharashtra, and nearby regions.
The Prabhandak Committee President S Chetan Singh Shikari, Secretary S Rajbeer Singh, Chairman S Harbans Singh and Advisor S Iqbal Singh and others said the initiative was aimed at supporting families unable to afford extravagant weddings, which often cost several lakhs of rupees.
The Prabhandak Committee made all arrangements, including providing free accommodation facilities and Guru-ka-Langar for the last two to three days. All the Sikh Gurudwaras of Telangana extended support for the successful conduct of these marriages.
