Hyderabad: Former Minister V Srinivas Goud has accused the Congress government of betraying Backward Classes (BCs) after securing power with their votes. He demanded that the Congress clarify the status of BC reservation bills, calling its plan to bring out a GO to implement 42 per cent reservations in local body elections another misleading tactic.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Friday, Srinivas Goud questioned why the Congress government failed to introduce the BC reservation bill in Parliament despite having 311 MPs to support its cause. He said the Congress was resorting to political theatrics with the BC reservation bill in the Assembly, followed by an ordinance, and now staging fresh drama in the name of a GO to implement BC reservations in local body polls.
“There is no clarity on the fate of the reservation bills and the ordinance. If it has to bring out a GO to implement reservations, what was the need to delay it for the last 20 months,” he asked, asserting that BC reservations can be effectively implemented only with legal sanctity.
MLC L Ramana stated that the Kamareddy BC Declaration by the Congress and promises of spending lakhs of crores on BCs were nothing but deception. He said BCs deserved at least eight berths in the State Cabinet but were given only two. Stating that the Congress was synonymous with fraud and selfish politics, he demanded a white paper on promises made in the manifesto and insisted that BC reservations must be implemented in line with law to prevent further injustice.
