Hyderabad: Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu has appealed to the union government to take up measures for the revival of the defunct Cement Corporation of India (CCI) plant at Adilabad.
At a high-level meeting in the Secretariat with Chief Secretary A Ramakrishna Rao, CCI CMD Sanjay Banga and other senior officials, proposals for the plant’s restoration were reviewed. The CCI management indicated that about Rs 2,000 crore would be required to modernise the plant with advanced machinery. Once operational, the unit could generate employment for nearly 3,000 people.
Sridhar Babu said Adilabad, being a backward region, would benefit greatly from the plant’s revival. “Such a major industry must remain under the union government’s control,” he said, and categorically opposed any move towards privatisation or disinvestment.
He also informed that the CCI had sought proposals from the State government, which would be submitted shortly. He added that over 2,000 acres of high-quality limestone deposits were available in the region, ensuring the plant’s viability.
