Hyderabad: Senior IPS officer M.Stephen Raveendra assumed charge as Cyberabad Police Commissioner on Wednesday.
Raveendra took over from VC Sajjanar, who has been posted as Managing Director of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation.
An IPS officer of the 1999 batch, Raveendra earlier served as Inspector General of Police, Hyderabad Range, DCP West Zone, and was DIG in the special elite special forces Grey Hound. A product of the Osmania University, Raveendra, the son of MB Ranjit, a former DSP, did his schooling from St.Paul’s High School and graduated from Little Flower Junior College and Nizam College, all in Hyderabad.
He did his postgraduation from the Department of Zoology, OU, where he received a gold medal. He cleared the Union Public Service Commission entrance, opted for IPS, and underwent training at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy here. Raveendra was awarded the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service and the Prime Minister’s Police Medal for life saving among others.
Sajjanar, who had taken over as Commissioner of Cyberabad in 2019, has left a mark in upholding law and order apart from undertaking several reforms.
His initiatives in rescuing citizens during the flash floods and helping migrant workers reach their homes during the Covid-19 first wave was appreciated. These were apart from the numerous steps he took to help people during the pandemic, right from arranging for oxygen cylinders, plasma donors, blood for thalassemia patients, ambulances for various categories of patients and even last ride facilities for Covid victims.
