Hyderabad: Demanding the State and Central governments to procure paddy produced in the Telangana, the State unit of Congress on Thursday held a protest rally from Public Gardens to Agriculture Commissioner Office in Nampally. Raising slogans and holding placards, the Congress leaders demanded the State and Central governments to stop politicising the paddy procurement issue.
Speaking on the occasion, TPCC president A Revanth Reddy alleged that BJP and TRS are two sides of the same coin. “The State government should announce minimum support price for the crops cultivated by the farmers,” he demanded. Lashing out at BJP leaders, Revanth demanded BJP State president Bandi Sanjay and Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy to take up the paddy procurement issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Malkajgiri MP found fault with the State government for issuing notification for liquor shop licences. “At a time when farmers are struggling due to non-procurement of crops, State government is focusing on generating revenue through liquor shop licences,” he alleged. CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said it was the responsibility of State and Central governments to procure paddy. “BJP and TRS should aside politics and strive for the welfare of farmers. If the State government is committed towards farmers’ welfare, then unanimous resolutions should be passed in the Assembly against the farm laws introduced by the Central government,” he demanded. Former TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and other senior leaders from the party participated in the protest.
