Hyderabad: BRS MLA and former Minister V Sunitha Laxma Reddy urged the State government to address the irrigation water crisis in Narsapur and Medak Assembly constituencies due to delay in water release from the Singur project. She sought urgen intervention of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in this regard.
The former Minister said farmers were facing severe distress as water did not reach fields despite oral directions from Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy to release the water. She said the issue stemmed from poor coordination between irrigation and Manjeera dam officials, with conflicting instructions at the field level.
She stated that nearly 30 per cent of crops have already withered, she said paddy spread across nearly 60,000 acres under the Ghanpur anicut which has 10 lift irrigation schemes and 7 check dams, was at risk.
Calling it a last lifeline, the BRS leader urged the government to immediately release at least 0.3 TMCft of water and issue clear written orders. She cautioned that any further delay could push farmers who were lready at the final stage of cultivation, into severe financial distress.
