The Bonalu festival began on Thursday at Golconda Fort’s Jagadambika temple with the first main puja of the Ashada month. Celebrations will continue until July 24 and spread to other temples including Ujjaini Mahankali and Akkana Madanna temples
Hyderabad came alive on Sunday with the commencement of Bonalu festivities in the city. Featuring the 'Thottelu', 'Phalaram bandi', and 'Bonam', commenced from Langar Houz and proceeded towards Golconda Fort.
The Bonalu festival at Golconda on June 22 will be followed by Secunderabad Mahankali Bonalu on July 9 and Rangam on July 10, festivities in the old city on July 16 and culminating with processions jointly organsied by temples in the city on July 17.
Additional Commissinoer (Traffic), Anil Kumar, said traffic restrictions will be in place from 8 am to 8 pm as heavy traffic is expected during the celebrations
