An attempted robbery at Balaji Jewellers in Nagaram sparked panic when two men threatened the shop owner with a fake firearm. The suspects, who arrived on a bike, posed as customers before brandishing the weapon.

The burglary came to light on Wednesday morning when the local people noticed the shutter broken and informed the shop owner about it.

Jewelry, firearms and vehicles used in the dacoity were seized from them.

Police suspect a short circuit in the shop led to the fire. The incident occurred when the shop was closed.

Kotha Rambabu and Kotha Srinivas Rao died on the spot. Their assistant Santhosh and car driver Santhosh received serious injuries in the incident.

Thieves decamped with mortgaged gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 21 lakh

The incident happened on Thursday night in Shikarpur town of the district and valuables weighing 500 grams of gold and 7 kg kg of silver jewellery were stolen, police further said.
