Hyderabad: A two-judge Bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice A Rajashekar Reddy on Monday directed the State government to submit its report on compliances with Covid protocol keeping in view the festival season. Earlier in the day, the State government placed before the court its report.
The four-page report signed by the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare Department had various reports including Covid tests. According to the report submitted to the court, in September the government conducted about 2.7 lakh RT-PCR tests and about 14,30,000 Rapid Antigen tests. The government said there are 256 pediatricians across the State.
Senior advocate however pointed out that the Central government on September 21 issued proceedings declaring that Covid still remained a grave and continuous public health challenge in the country. Chikkudu Prabhakar another advocate appearing in the batch of Covid related cases pointed out how it could be another ‘genocide’ if precautions were not taken in Huzurabad where a bypoll is scheduled. The panel posted the matter on 22 November.
Civic amenities: Petitioner to file counter The same Bench granted time to the petitioners to respond to a counter-affidavit filed by the GHMC in a public interest litigation case relating to poor civic amenities. The Bench asked the GHMC to update its action plan and told the petitioner to file respective responses. The panel was hearing a case filed by Satya Naresh, a social activist from Hyderabad.
Setback for Irrigation Department The same Bench directed the individual petitioners in a bunch of writ pleas to implead the State Irrigation Department to the list of respondents. The petitioners questioned the action of the civic authorities in demolishing the structure and evicting from properties that they own. The land and structures are near the Mir Alam Fiter, Tadbund. The petitioners contended that their structures are outside the FTL as reflected in the geo coordinates. Pashyam Krishna Reddy, counsel for GHMC pointed out that the question of whether the land fell within or outside of the FTL requires to be determined in the presence of the Irrigation Department. The panel directed the implead of the Irrigation Department. It also made clear that the authorities will not evict anybody except by following due process of law.
