Khammam: The International Women’s Day was celebrated in grand manner here on Tuesday and several women elected members felicitated by TRS leaders. The celebrations took place at the camp office of Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar in VDO’s Colony following the instructions of the TRS working president KT Rama Rao. SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar and his wife felicitated and presented sarees and sweets to Mayor P Neeraja, Deputy Mayor Fatima Zohara, Khammam Agricultural Market Committee (AMC) Chairperson, D Lakshmiprasanna, women corporators and other local bodies members.
Former MLC B Lakshminarayana, senior TRS leader Gundala Krishna, TRS city wing president Pagadala Nagaraju and others took part in the event and addressed the gathering. They said the State was at the forefront in achieving women’s welfare and empowerment. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was giving utmost priority to women’s welfare and introduced many schemes in that direction. As a result women were excelling in various fields making her unique mark in the society, Krishna said.
Since the formation of Telangana State, schemes like KCR Kits, Kalyana Lakshmi and Shadi Mubarak which the TRS government introduced have proved to be a boon for Telangana girls and women. Measures like setting up She Teams ensured women safety, he added. Similarly, many schools, colleges and hostels have been set up exclusively for girl students. The Chief Minister also ensured that due representation be given to women in elected and nominated posts in urban and rural bodies.
As a result women leaders in large numbers have been elected as sarpanches, MPTC and ZPTC members, Zilla Parishad chairpersons, Municipal chairpersons, Mayors, corporators and chairmen of various corporations, Krishna said. The government’s decision to set up a Women’s University in the State by allocating a budget of Rs 100 crore for the university was a good development and it would contribute to the development of education for rural poor women, the TRS leaders added.
