Hyderabad: Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday took up a batch of public interest litigations concerning the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) works around KBR Park and issues relating to the Eco-Sensitive Zone.
The matters were mentioned out of turn by the petitioners’ counsel, who brought to the Court’s notice that construction activities on pavements in and around the KBR Park area were continuing unabated, even while the Eco-Sensitive Zone notification of 2020 remained under challenge.
Appearing for the State, the Advocate General sought time to obtain updated instructions in light of the developments. The Additional Solicitor General of India, representing the Central Government, also requested time to place further material on record, including the possibility of filing additional affidavits.
The Bench, taking note of the submissions, granted time to all parties. It also permitted the petitioners to undertake further research regarding the nature of activities that are prohibited, regulated, or permitted within the buffer zone of an Eco-Sensitive Zone.
These PILs broadly challenge the legality of flyover construction under the SRDP, the large-scale felling of trees around KBR Park, and the validity of the Eco-Sensitive Zone notification issued under the Environment (Protection) Act. Posting the matter for further hearing, the Court adjourned the batch to May 5, 2026.
