Hyderabad: The Telangana State Human Rights Commission on Monday called for a detailed report from the Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy following allegations of police inaction in the recent murder of advocate G Swapna Kumari.
The Commission, chaired by Dr Justice Shameem Akther, took up the issue after receiving a complaint from 163 members of the legal fraternity. The complaint stated that the advocate had identified her brother as a potential threat and sought protection, but no effective preventive steps were taken. She was later brutally murdered murdered on February 4, 2026.
Describing the alleged lapses as serious, the commission has directed the DGP to submit a comprehensive report and posted the case for further hearing on March 6, 2026.
The petitioners have also sought an independent probe into the incident, action against officials found negligent, security for eyewitnesses, interim financial assistance to the victim’s mother and speedy filing of the chargesheet.
