Hyderabad: After putting in a minimum of 15 years of experience, nearly 50,000 in-service teachers with the government and local body schools across the State are in the race to crack the Telangana Teacher Eligibility Test (TGTET).
In response to the notification issued by the School Education department, a staggering 49,326 in-service teachers registered for the TET 2026.
Among the applicants, 33,564 teachers registered for Paper-II, which is conducted for candidates who intend to become teachers for Classes VI to VIII. Similarly, 15,672 applied for the Paper-I held for applicants to get teacher eligibility for Classes I to V. As many as 11,719 teachers registered for both papers.
A large number of teachers registered for the TET in view of the recent amendment to Rule 12 (exemption from passing TET) in GO MS 36 that mandated all in-service teachers working in government and local body schools to appear for the TET conducted either by the State or Central government.
Earlier, before the NCTE notification dated August 23, 2010, teachers appointed in government and local body schools were exempted from appearing in the TET.
As per the recent order issued by the State government, Secondary Grade Teachers and Lower Functional Literacy (LFL) school headmasters appointed with both DElEd and BEd qualifications must take Paper-I of TET. Similarly, school assistants, language pandits, and high school headmasters should appear for Paper-II of TET.
The Education department amended the rule in view of the recent Supreme Court verdict mandating that all teachers, except those with less than five years of service, clear the TET within two years to retain their jobs. Teachers with less than five years of service must pass the TET to become eligible for promotion.
With exams scheduled from January 3, teachers are juggling regular classroom work, while simultaneously preparing for the TET. Overall, the School Education department received 2,37,754 applications, with 85,538 for Paper-I and 1,52,216 for Paper-II, including applications from other than in-service teachers.
Candidates who applied for the test can download hall tickets from the website https://tgtet.aptonline.in/ from December 27. After the conclusion of the test on January 31, the results will be declared between February 10 and 16.
