Hyderabad: BRS General Secretary RS Praveen Kumar on Saturday charged that Telangana had become a hub for POCSO cases, blaming the Congress government for deteriorating law and order in the State.
Addressing a press conference, he referred to the killing of six people in Daivalaguda village of Shabad by a POCSO accused, alleging that the incident reflected the government’s failure.
He stated that the accused was still absconding and demanded Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s resignation.
Praveen Kumar said a woman identified as Lakshmi had lodged a police complaint on May 16, alleging an attempt to rape and sexually abuse her minor daughter. “Unfortunately, Lakshmi is now in the mortuary at the Chevella Government Hospital. Is this not the government’s failure?” he asked.
The BRS leader also said the victim and her mother in the Petbasheerabad POCSO case had contacted him, expressing concern over the accused being granted bail.
“Did the Chief Minister review the POCSO cases? He didn’t. His focus is solely on filing charge sheets against BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, KT Rama Rao and Harish Rao in the phone-tapping case,” Praveen Kumar alleged, adding that POCSO cases required greater attention.
Referring to the Shabad case, he alleged that the accused killed the minor girl and her relatives believing it would help him escape punishment.
Drawing a parallel with the Petbasheerabad case, he claimed the accused had acted brutally after allegedly sharing videos of the girl on social media. He questioned why the Public Prosecutor had not effectively opposed the bail plea.
Praveen Kumar also questioned why senior lawyers such as Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Siddharth Luthra were not engaged to oppose the accused’s bail.
