Tension in Peerzadiguda as revenue officials demolish wall amid extortion allegations

A demolition drive by revenue officials in Peerzadiguda triggered tension when a minority family alleged extortion by local Congress leaders. The boundary wall of Mohammed Ghouse’s house was razed following complaints, which the family claims were politically motivated after refusing to pay Rs. 3 lakh.

Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed at Peerzadiguda municipality on the city outskirts when revenue officials, with the help of police removed an alleged illegal construction at a house on Tuesday.

According to reports, the revenue officials took up the demolition of the boundary wall of a house belonging to a minority family, allegedly following complaints from the local Congress party leaders.

The family of Mohammed Ghouse, who reportedly owns the house, said the leaders Kareem, Parmesh and others had demanded Rs. 3 lakh from them and when they failed to pay, the Congress party leaders approached the revenue authorities and made a complaint. Subsequently, the revenue authorities came and demolished the newly constructed wall of the house.

Tension escalated when a family member Shahnawaz doused himself in fuel and tried to set ablaze. However, the local people and police intervened and snatched away the matchbox from his hands.

Shahnawaz alleged that the leaders were harassing him for the last several months, demanding money and threatening to get the house demolished.
