Hyderabad: Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) on Tuesday inspected a series of first aid centres in Shabad, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, and found that they were being operated by unqualified individuals.
The inspecting teams detected six first aid centres, most of which were single-room establishments run by unqualified medical practitioners and named as ‘clinics’ or ‘first aid’ centres.
Despite lacking an MBBS qualification, TGMC Chairman Dr K Mahesh Kumar and Vice-Chairman Dr G Srinivas said the quacks were illegally prescribing, and in some cases administering, steroid injections, analgesics and antibiotics to patients, thus endangering their lives.
“We will be filing cases against six individuals at the local police stations as per NMC 34, 54 Act and TSMPR Act 22, BNS Sections 318 and 319,” Dr Srinivas said.
The facilities operated by quacks in Shabad included Om Sai First Aid Centre by Lingachari, Mustafa Clinic by Mustafa, Master Clinic by Venkatesh, Sri Sai Clinic by Anjayya, Shravan First Aid Centre by Balraj, and ZamZam Clinic by Md Ghouse Amzad. These centres were shut down within hours by the local district health authorities.
