Hyderabad: The Telangana State Forensic Laboratory is all set to add another feather to its cap with the State government sanctioning Rs. 17.50 crore for the modernization and construction of a new DNA & Molecular Biology Laboratory.
Coming up on 14,000 sft area, the new three storied building will house state-of-the-art equipment to help the police in cracking sensational and complex cases.
Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali who laid the foundation stone for the new building near the Nampally police station on Saturday said, “Scientists connect a criminal to a crime using forensic science and technology. It helps in conviction of the guilty and ensure justice to the victim.” Completing all the works, the new facility is expected to be ready within eight months.
The Home Minister added, “Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao always prioritises the law and order in the State. Modernization of the police department has been taken up on large scale in last few years.”
Director Forensic Science, Abilasha Bisht, said that one of the important part of any crime investigation is the forensic examination. The courts also believe in the forensic evidence and based on the unbiased reports, the judgment is given. “You have seen basing on FSL reports, courts have given life term and death sentence in certain cases,” said pointed out.
The official said that the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory on an average receives 10,000 cases a year. “In few cases, we get over 20 articles for examination and one can image the work load on the FSL,” she said.
In the new DNA and Molecular Biology Laboratory being constructed, all cases related to body offences including crimes against women and children will be examined. “I am grateful to the city police who are collaborating with us in modernisation of the FSL,” the Director said.
