Hyderabad: Telangana State Aviation Academy (TSAA) has revamped its drone pilot training facilities with the selection of a new Hyderabad-based company as the training partner.
TSAA, which has 280 acre flight area, a 920 metre runaway and a diverse set of drones, is one of the few flight training organisations approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to officially run drone and remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) pilot training programmes. It is working with Hyderabad-based Marut Drones for executing the training curriculum by employing trained instructors, advanced equipment and DGCA compliant processes.
TSAA has so far trained 70 drone pilots. Scientific officers from reputed organisations like National Remote Sensing Centre and Icrisat too have have got trained. Industry and IT Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan presented certificates to them on Thursday.
The drone pilot training is critical since drone/RPA pilot certification is mandatory to operate a drone or remotely piloted aircraft as per the Government of India’s regulations. The students completing the programme by TSAA will become DGCA certified drone pilots and can legally fly drones. There is no need for certificate for drones measuring less than 2kg. The training includes a five-day intensive hands-on training program which covers drone regulations, drone hardware/software internals, drone flying simulations and field drone flying exercises. The cost of the programme is about Rs 56,000.
“Telangana has been a key advocate for the adoption of drone technology, and understands that the availability of skilled pilots is critical for expansion of this sector. Hence, TSAA is now forging new partnerships and ensuring the quality training programmes to ensure Telangana remains a front-runner in drone technology,” said Ranjan.
TSAA already has a rich history in training pilots for manned aviation and has been in existence for seven decades. It has seven aircrafts and two advanced simulators. It has been adjudged as the best flight training organisation consecutively for last 12 years. The focus on drone pilot training is in line with Telangana Government’s efforts to make the State a hub for drone technology in the country.
