Hyderabad: The Telangana Teaching Government Doctors Association (TTGDA) on Sunday urged the State government to provide peripheral medical college special allowance (hardship allowance) to its members.
In the TTGDA general council meeting held in Hyderabad on Sunday, the association of peripheral doctors said due to working in harsh conditions, the faculty deserved hardship allowance.
“Doctors who are working in peripheral medical colleges must receive an allowance of 30 percent of their basic pay for rural postings and 50 percent for postings in remote and tribal areas. This will go a long way in encouraging talent to work at such locations,” the TTGDA said.
Some of the other major demands put forward by the TTGDA include recognition of the association at the earliest, transfers on a regular basis and clear guidelines for registering for biometric attendance.
“There have been occasions where leaves are not granted to doctors working in peripheral areas. This should not be the case. There is also need to improve infrastructure or working conditions for doctors like proper duty rooms, toilets and proper support staff for doctors posted in peripheral regions,” the TTGDA pointed out.
The members of TTGDA in the general council meeting also pointed out that union leaders are intentionally getting targeted by the health department for raising concerns or genuine issues. “There is a need to complete direct recruitment of Assistant Professors at the earliest and completely avoid contract system of recruitment in old medical colleges,” TTGDA demanded.
