Speaking at a membership drive of the union here on Sunday, he said the government was not concerned about the major challenges faced by journalists. It might also reduce the number of accreditation cards given to working journalists. He asked the journalists to be ready to protest against the government if accreditation cards, a right of every working journalist, were slashed and restrictions imposed.
He said the union had got the previous government to deposit a corpus fund of Rs 100 crore for the welfare of working journalists. Nearly 4,000 journalists were benefited by financial assistance extended by the academy during Covid-19.
Narayana further said that compensation of Rs 1 lakh was given to kin of scribes who died in road accidents and due to ailments.
