Hyderabad: Senior IPS officer VC Sajjanar assumed charge as Hyderabad Police Commissioner at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), Banjara Hills here on Tuesday.
Later, speaking to presspersons, Sajjanar announced that ‘People Welfare Policing’ will be the top priority in the city and said this new approach would go a long way in ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens. “Focus areas will include maintenance of law and order, traffic and road safety, protection of women and children, adoption of AI-based technology, prevention of cyber and financial crimes, 24/7 citizen services, and welfare of police personnel,” he said.
Drug menace would be dealt with firmly and past drug-related cases would be reviewed thoroughly, tracing back to the root networks, and legal action taken against all responsible,” he said, adding that the H-NEW team would be further strengthened and awareness campaigns would be intensified. To counter the threats of cybercrime, awareness programmes would be organised in colonies, apartments, and basthis.
The Commissioner also termed food adulteration as a serious health hazard, assuring strict legal action against those involved in such activities.
On traffic, he said traffic problems in the city were only becoming more complex every day. “We will set long-term goals to resolve traffic issues and save citizens’ valuable time on the roads. Special attention will be paid to drunk-and-drive cases. Those driving under the influence are like terrorists and moving suicide bombs on our roads and will not be tolerated,” Sajjanar said.
