Warangal: Tension prevailed in the Karimabad area of the city on Thursday after unidentified miscreants desecrated graves of prominent personalities of the Warangal district in a graveyard situated at the 33rd division of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC).

The Hindu Hakkula Parirakshana Samithi volunteers along with several locals staged a protest at the graveyard and demanded action against the guilty.

BJP Warangal district president G Ravi Kumar and former corporator Kusuma Sateesh Babu visited the graveyard and demanded the government to take action against the people responsible for the incident.

Graves of National Institute of Technology, Warangal (then Regional Engineering College) founder member Itukala Madhusudhan Rao, three-time MLA Bhandaru Nagabhushan Rao, former collector for Hyderabad, and Warangal Mudigonda Veerabhadraiah, renowned freedom fighters Bhandaru Chandramoulishwar Rao, Sadasiva Rao, Veeramalla Prasad, and famous labour union leaders Kalidas and Gujjula Janardhan were demolished among the hundreds in the graveyard.

Family members of the deceased, whose graves were desecrated, lodged a complaint with the GWMC commissioner and demanded her to take action. They also lodged a complaint with the Mills Colony police station. Warangal district collector Satya Sharada has ordered a probe into the incident.
