Khammam: Despite warnings from the police department against involving in online betting, the habit of online betting has allegedly claimed the life of an engineering graduate of Khammam working in a private firm in Hyderabad.
Mohammed Azizuddin (29) was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence at YSR Colony late on Monday.
Before ending his life, he recorded a selfie video addressing his parents explaining the reasons for his extreme step. He said he was not under pressure from those who lent money to him and he never thought of dying by suicide but he had taken the decision to end his life.
As a last wish, he appealed to his parents and family members not to come close or touch his body after he was gone as he wanted to die like an orphan. Azizuddin further stated he had written a list of his creditors and if the family members wished to clear his debts, a house they own at Gopalapuram could be sold.
He was said to be bright in his studies and after completing civil engineering working in a private company. He came to his native place a few months ago, quitting his job. His family members left their house at YSR Colony six months ago and were living at Rotary Nagar as the youth failed to stop betting online. The youth was living alone at YSR Colony.
Azizuddin’s father Mohammed Mohiduddin, who works as bus driver in a private school in Khammam, in his complaint to Khanapuram Haveli police on Tuesday stated that his son lost Rs 5 lakh some time back and again lost Rs 20 lakh recently in online betting. He said he had warned his son against getting addicted to online betting but in vain.
The family members lamented that they wanted to wait for some time to sell their house and clear Azizuddin’s debts, but before that he ended his life.
The youth’s father said his son sent a message around midnight on Monday about his suicide bid. By the time he along with the family members reached the home during wee hours on Tuesday, the youngster was found hanging.
Khanapuram Haveli police have booked a case and are investigating.
