Hyderabad: A video showing staff members at a UK theatre stopping the screening of the Telugu film Hari Hara Veera Mallu to confront audience members for creating a mess has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread reactions.
The incident occurred at a Cineworld theatre during the screening of the film, when some viewers allegedly threw confetti inside the auditorium, leaving the floor littered. The movie was paused as two staff members addressed the crowd, asking them to maintain decorum.
The video was first shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @UB1UB2, with the caption: “Cineworld staff interrupted an Indian movie halfway after the members of the audience were making a mess.” As of the last update, the clip had garnered nearly three million views and hundreds of comments.
Social media users largely backed the theatre staff’s move. One user commented: “Why weren’t they thrown out?!” Another wrote: “I’ve never seen such a mess inside a theatre, even in India.” Some suggested that the audience should have apologized and offered to clean up, while others condemned the behavior as “pathetic” and called for “decorum classes” for Indians living abroad.
When a user claimed that throwing confetti during popular films was a cultural practice in southern India, the original poster disagreed, stating: “What might be considered normal in Indian cinemas is seen here as littering and disrespectful.”
While the claim that the screening was stopped midway remains unverified, the video has sparked a debate on social etiquette in cinemas and cultural differences in movie-watching behavior.
