Hyderabad: Delhi Capitals suffered their second loss in the tournament at the hands of in-form Mumbai Indians by five wickets on Sunday. After this match, both teams were on 10 points but the Rohit Sharma-led MI jumped to top of the table with a better run rate.

Speaking after the match, DC captain Shreyas Iyer conceded that they were outplayed in all departments by Mumbai and a few more runs on the board would have made the match interesting. “From our batting point of view, we paced the innings despite losing two wickets in powerplay. But we lost (Marcus) Stoinis in 16th over when he was hitting well and lost our way from there. We could have scored 20, 30 runs more there. I feel 175 would have looked completely different on the board,” he said.

He lauded Mumbai spinners and said they didn’t give them anything. “MI spinners bowled very well. They didn’t give us anything. They outplayed us in all departments and the credit to their spinners.” Opener Shikhar Dhawan scored his first fifty of the tournament and Iyer hoped to see many more from the experienced player. “Shikhar played really well. We needed that fifty from him. He is an amazing batsman and has great experience. He can give us a great start in tough situations. We are looking more from him”.

Meanwhile, MI’s spinner Krunal Pandya said that they would want to be stronger in the second part of the tournament. “We bowled really well as a unit, especially in powerplay. We got breakthroughs and that put the opposition under pressure. We didn’t concede too many runs in the death as well and (Rahul) Chahar bowled well in the middle. So overall, it was a good performance,” said the southpaw who picked up two wickets for 26 runs in his four overs.

Speaking about the chase, he said, the total was always tricky. “If it is 180 we know we have to go hard and if it is 140 we can take time. But these totals like 160 are always tricky. The powerplay was important for us. Though we lost Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Quinton de Kock batted well and didn’t allow opposition bowlers to settle.”

“We want to be stronger in the second half of the tournament. As a team we have done really well so far. We got a good break now and we will reassess on things we need to improve,” concluded Krunal.
