Hyderabad: What is the actual expenditure that the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government in Telangana plans to spend on building the new High Court of Telangana? Well, there is no one figure.
In January 2024, the government allocated 100 acres from the State Agriculture and Horticulture Universities in Premavathipet and Budwel villages of Rajendranagar mandal in Rangareddy district for the project. The estimated cost of the construction was pegged at Rs 500 crore.
Then Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Chief Justice of Telangana High Court Justice Alok Aradhe laid the foundation stone for the new complex in March 2024.
According to reports, the new complex would have all the necessary facilities, including courtrooms, chambers for judges, administrative offices, libraries, and other support services. It will incorporate modern technology and infrastructure for better efficiency.
However, in August of the same year, State IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu informed the Assembly that the State government had allocated Rs 1,000 crore in the Budget for constructing the High Court. The project is estimated to be completed in 18 months.
The Minister also ruled out any impact on the research work of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agriculture University due to the land transfer for the project.
Now, six months down the line, the construction cost has skyrocketed, and according to the New Indian Express, the new building complex would now cost around Rs 2,580 crore, way more than the earlier estimates.
Would the government care to explain?
