Hyderabad: To cater to the need for the increasing rail passenger traffic, the South Central Railway (SCR) authorities have planned to modernise the Kacheguda railway station.
Currently, the Secunderabad railway station is being redeveloped and modernised on a par with the airports with all the needed features at an estimated cost of Rs 750 crore, and the works have been in progress at a rapid pace.
Similarly, it was proposed to develop the Kacheguda station about two years ago.
To this extent, an action plan was prepared with a cost of Rs 450 crore and sent to the Railway Board. However, the proposal was sent back by the Board, seeking the SCR authorities to reduce the related estimated cost for the modernisation.
With this, the South Central Railway and the GatiShakti Department officials are working on the changes to be made and send a revised and more apt proposal to get the approval from the Railway Board.
It is noteworthy that the Kacheguda railway station, which lacks present-day passenger facilities including platforms as per the passenger strength, needs to be upgraded.
Currently, there are only five platforms, and it requires at least six more to be built. More lifts, escalators and foot over bridges also need to be installed catering to the growing rail passenger traffic. In the wake of the board sending back the proposal, the SCR officials are working on the changes to be made and re-send it for approval.
Kacheguda railway station is one of the four Central Stations in Hyderabad. It is operated by the South Central Railway zone. The station was first built in 1916, during the reign of NizamOsmanAli Khan to create wider connectivity for the State to western cities like Mumbai through the railway junction at Wadi. This station was the headquarters of the then Nizam’s Guaranteed State Railway.
