Adilabad: The Telangana State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (TSCPCR) Chairman J Srinivas Rao told authorities concerned to create awareness among the public over rights guaranteed by the Constitution to children.

He was speaking at a meeting held in connection with Bala Adalat in Untoor mandal centre on Thursday. The Bala Adalat was organised to address grievances of children belonging to tribal habitations of Adilabad district and to ensure the protection of their rights. The objective of the programme was to bring justice to the doorsteps of the victims of child labor, sexual abuses, child marriages and other menaces.

Srinivas said that the commission was playing a vital role in abolishing sexual assaults against children and child marriages. He stated that it would submit reports by identifying provisions of the law and acts needed to children. He added that those who could not utilize the opportunity of airing their grievances could submit their petitions with officials concerned by July 31.

The Chairman said that as many as 120 petitions with regard to various grievances were received during the event. He said that a major portion of them related to financial aid, issuance of community certificates and medical services offered to the children by the government. He stated that the programme would create a sense of hope among the children dwelling in remote parts and tribal hinterland.

Collector, who was also present at the mega grievance redressal programme, assured to take steps to address the problems at the earliest. A Shobharani, B Aparna and Anjan Rao, members of the commission also spoke. They said that the commission was striving hard to protect the rights of the children. They opined that the tribal kids were suffering from malnutrition and there was a need to provide better medical services to them.

Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA)-Utnoor Project Officer Bhavesh Mishra, Utnoor DSP Uday Reddy, District Welfare Officer Milka, District Child Protection Officer Rajendr Prasad and many other officials were present.
