Dispute over ownership of cows reaches police station
Khammam: A roaming herd of cows has triggered an unending dispute between two villages in Penuballi mandal here. Residents of the two villages approached the police claiming ownership of the herd on Saturday.
According to the police, the dispute among the villagers of Somla Naik thanda and Ramachander Rao Banjar in the mandal was going on for the last 10 days over the ownership of the cows, which were moving around both the villages for grazing. As the villagers lodged complaints with VM Banjar police against each other, the police advised them to settle the dispute in the presence of the elders in their respective villages.
However, the villagers did not agree to that, saying that they already approached the village elders to settle the dispute but a solution could not be found. The police then asked them to leave the cows in the Ring Centre at VM Banjar, reasoning that the cows would reach the house of the actual owners on their own. However, even this did not work out with the villagers picking up an argument again even after the cows were left in the Ring Centre. Each of the villagers started claiming ownership of the cows.
This led to a traffic disruption at the centre for a while, forcing the police to intervene again. Though the police managed to disperse the villagers and make them return to their homes, the ownership dispute remains unsolved.
