Karimnagar: BRS activists performed Jalabhishekam to the Telangana martyrs memorial statue in Karimnagar town with Kaleshwaram water on Monday, protesting against the PC Ghose Commission report on the Kaleshwaram project.
BRS leaders, led by former MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao and BRSV district coordinator Ponnam Anil Kumar Goud, collected Kaleshwaram water from the Lower Manair Dam and offered it to the martyrs memorial statue located in the market area.
Speaking on the occasion, they said the Kaleshwaram project constructed by the BRS government had become a lifeline for Telangana, with about one crore acres brought under cultivation. They alleged that the Congress government led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was attempting to tarnish the image of BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao, who was instrumental in building the project, by projecting Kaleshwaram as a failed venture.
For political gain, the government was keeping the issue alive and maligning the sanctity of the project in the name of the Vigilance Commission, NDSA and the Ghose Commission, they said.
The leaders pointed out that only minor cracks had developed on two pillars of the Medigadda barrage, but instead of taking up immediate repairs, the Congress government was dragging the matter through committees. They added that this neglect had disturbed the souls of Telangana martyrs, and Jalabhishekam was being performed to calm them. The BRS leaders assured that once the party returned to power under the supervision of Chandrashekhar Rao, repairs to Medigadda would be undertaken and water would be supplied to farmlands.
They demanded that the government fulfil its promises to the people and stop what they called vendetta politics.
