Hyderabad: Former BRS MLA Chanti Kranthi Kiran on Thursday accused the Congress government of neglecting farmers’ issues and shielding alleged encroachments in the Singur reservoir area. He demanded that a criminal case be registered and an impartial inquiry conducted into the alleged encroachments.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Kranthi alleged that lands within the Singur reservoir limits were being encroached upon. He stated that Anil Reddy, a relative of Minister Damodara Raja Narasimha, was involved in grabbing land in the area. Several water bodies and irrigation tanks dating back to the Nizam era had been flattened and occupied.
The former MLA said despite submitting video evidence to district authorities, no action had been taken and alleged that officials were acting under political pressure. Questioning the government’s commitment to protecting public resources, he raised concerns that without securing the Singur reservoir area, there was no safety for land.
He also accused the government of failing to address farmers’ problems, alleging shortages of fertilisers, rising input costs and inadequate prices for agricultural produce.
Kranthi Kiran said BRS activists who exposed issues on social media were being targeted. Referring to an incident involving a party activist in Zaheerabad, Kranthi Kiran stated that the activist was detained and harassed by police before being released following protests by BRS workers for nearly six hours.
