Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to expedite the development works under the Musi Riverfront project, particularly the stretch from Himayat Sagar to Gandhi Sarovar. He asked officials to plan and construct bridge-cum-barrages on the river and secure all necessary permissions without delay.
In a review meeting with officials, the Chief Minister said, “A landmark structure like India Gate, Gateway of India, or Charminar should be built as a symbol of the Musi project at Kothwalguda Junction on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) towards the River Musi.”
He also reviewed the development plans for Nehru Zoological Park and Mir Alam Tank. Revanth Reddy suggested the construction of a luxury hotel with modern amenities near the zoo and the tank to promote tourism. “This will allow tourists to stay and enjoy the panoramic view of the park, the tank, and the city,” he noted.
The Chief Minister directed Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) officials to focus on transforming Hyderabad into an eco-friendly and pollution-free city.
As part of the efforts to curb pollution, he instructed officials to begin the process of relocating polluting industries from the city’s core to areas along the Outer Ring Road. He also suggested studying pollution control strategies in major metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai before finalising plans for Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister ordered an immediate ban on single-use plastic and a strict prohibition on the dumping of construction waste on roadsides or in public spaces. “Strict action should be taken against those who deliberately violate pollution norms,” he said.
He also sought an update on the long-pending Metro Rail works in the Old City and instructed officials to speed up the project, citing that the required funds had already been released.
He also asked officials to fast-track the elevated corridor works from Paradise Junction to Shamirpet ORR.
