Khammam: The ranks of CPI (ML) Mass Line staged a demonstration at TGRTC bus depot in Khammam on Wednesday demanding an increase in the number of bus services to meet the rush.
The CPI (ML) Mass Line district secretary, Gokinepalli Venkateswarlu addressing the gathering complained that the Congress government which offered free travel for women scheme was diluting it by reducing the number of bus services.
Due to the lack of sufficient number of buses women, students and unemployed were not able to use the scheme properly. The number of services should be increased according to the number of passengers, he demanded.
The bus services should be renewed on the canceled rural routes and the obsolete buses should be withdrawn from service. The passengers were facing many problems in outdated buses and there were no proper bus services to reach towns from rural areas for educational, employment and health needs, Venkateswarlu noted.
He said that sometimes the drivers were not stopping the buses at the stages due to overload. The government and the RTC management should take immediate steps to buy more buses and improve public transport. There were incidents where conductors and drivers accused of ill treating women availing free travel facility, concerned officials need to act to stop such incidents.
The Mass Line leader demanded that the vacant driver, conductor and other posts in RTC should be filled immediately. Water was leaking even into super luxury buses when it rains causing inconvenience to the passengers, he added.
It was planned to lay a siege to the Bus Bhavan on December 9, Venkateswarlu said while calling upon the public to make the programme a success. The party leader Avula Venkateswarlu, Ramaiah, Avula Ashok, Bandela Venkaiah, Mangatai Jhansi, Shobha K and others were present.
