Adilabad: Health department officials have launched a crackdown on private hospitals and clinics run by rural medical practitioners (RMPs) in Adilabad district headquarters, targeting unregistered and non-compliant facilities.
A hospital in the district centre was seized for operating without registration. Two RMP-run clinics were also shut down and fined Rs 10,000 each for violating the Telangana State Medical Practitioners Registration Act, 1968, and the National Medical Commission Act. Officials said the violations were detected during surprise inspections at two hospitals.
RMPs were specifically warned against practising beyond the scope of first aid. “If they exceed this limit and provide further treatment, legal action will be taken. They were also instructed to display name boards stating ‘First Aid Clinic’. Otherwise, clinics will be seized and cases booked under relevant Acts,” District Medical and Health Officer Dr Narender Rathod said.
Private hospitals were directed to comply with fire safety and pollution control norms and obtain necessary clearances. They were also told to prominently display price charts for their services. Officials said any overcharging of patients or violations of government norms would invite strict legal action.
Teams have been formed to continue inspections across the district, which has 168 private hospitals. All nursing homes in the district will be checked in phases.
Officials are also planning to convene a meeting with RMPs to sensitise them on the services allowed under ‘first aid clinics’. It was noted that some RMPs were creating panic among patients by linking common viral fevers to dengue, pushing them towards expensive treatment in private hospitals.
