Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar on Wednesday said that besides allocating land, steps have been taken to construct vaikunta dhamams (crematoriums) and graveyards for all religions in Karimnagar.
The Minister was speaking after inaugurating a modernised vaikunta dhamam on the banks of Manair vagu near the cable bridge on the outskirts of Karimnagar town. “Earlier, people of the town used to face hardships because there was only one crematorium located on the banks of Manair vagu,” he said.
After State formation, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was allocating lands to all religions to construct vaikunta dhamams and graveyards to perform the final rites of the deceased person in a dignified manner.
Vaikunta dhamam spread in seven acres of land on the banks of Manair vagu was modernized at a cost of Rs 2.65 crore. Earlier, there was a facility to perform final rites for only two persons. However, it was updated to perform funeral rites of five deceased persons at a time. For the purpose, five platforms were constructed, he informed.
Besides a storage room to store ashes and locker facility, bathrooms, a shed to store firewood, gallery, greenery and other facilities were developed. Two more such graveyards were developed in Alkapuri colony and Kharkanagadda by spending Rs 2 crore on each.
While Muslims graveyard was developed with Rs 1.50 crore, Rs 50 lakh was allocated for Christians graveyard. All religious graveyards were modernized by allocating Rs 13.65 crore.
Vaikunta dhamams were modernized with CM assurance, Pattana Pragathi, Municipal and LRS funds, Minister informed.
