FCRI holds training programme for tribals on forest regeneration

Hyderabad: Forest College and Research lnstitute (FCRI) conducted a training programme for tribals on generating and collecting more forest products using traditional methods and avoiding damage to forests.

The training programme was conducted by FCRI in association with Telangana State Girijan Cooperative Corporation Limited (TSGCCL) and Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation (TRIFED) under Van Dhan project at Mulugu College, Siddipet.


The focus was on helping the tribals in securing quality forest products using advanced and traditional methods while ensuring least damage to trees and forests cover. Emphasis was also laid on increasing the forest products collection for the tribals.

Awareness was created among tribals on the adverse effects of cutting the trees, poaching, lighting fire to trees and other practices. Nearly 50 tribals from 17 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVK) in Bhadrachalam particiapted in the programme. Also, Eturnagaram and Mannanur ITDA and field officers from TSGCCL  participated in the two-day training event.

Later, all the participants will conduct similar training sessions for other tribals in respective VDVKs from July 19. FCRI Dean, Priyanka Verghese coordinated the programme in which Van Dhan project details were also shared with participants.
