Hyderabad: The State government has stepped up efforts to develop key heritage sites in Hyderabad as major tourist destinations. Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Wednesday toured and reviewed works at Chowmahalla Palace and the Charminar area.
Officials said Rs 3.64 crore has been sanctioned for the restoration of the historic Machli Kaman, and the tender process will begin soon. Plans are also in place to renovate Sher-e-Batil Kaman and improve the fountain near Charminar to enhance the visitor experience.
On the occasion, the Minister said the government was preparing special master plans to promote Hyderabad as a global tourism destination. Development of tourism hubs was being aligned with the new tourism policy, he added.
Authorities were instructed to focus on improving infrastructure through a public-private partnership model. The aim is to increase revenue and create jobs while preserving heritage structures. Officials said efforts were being made to maintain the original character of historic sites while adding modern facilities for tourists.
