Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner C V Anand said the final Ganesh idol immersion procession passed off peacefully and no major untoward incident was reported in the city.
He said the immersion process ended a bit earlier than the previous years and all the roads were opened for the traffic in the city.
“By 10.30 am, we opened all the junctions and roads in the city for the traffic. Compared to previous year the process was completed three hours early,” said C V Anand.
The Hyderabad CP said they had planned in a way to ensure the immersion process ended by 6 am or 7 am, however due to some reasons and non-cooperation of a few pandal organizers it could not happen. “We will follow up with the organizers and ensure next time they fully cooperate with the police. Also, there were issues like vehicle breakdown, power cables hindering tall idols etc that contributed to the delay,” said C V Anand.
He said around 1 lakh idols were immersed in Hussainsagar during the last ten days and 15,000 on the final immersion day. He said 25,000 police forces including 15,000 from the city were deployed for the smooth conduct of the Ganesh festival.
C V Anand thanked the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee for cooperating with the police and ensuring the immersion of the giant idol took place by 1.30 pm on Tuesday. He also thanked the other government departments concerned for extending their cooperation.
