The Minister flagged off 55 advanced compactors for garbage collection and transportation. These vehicles are being introduced in the country for the first time.

In addition to these, he also launched the modern transfer station at Sanjeevaiah Park here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion,  he said the Telangana Government has set up advanced garbage collection, transport and treatment system, including the fleet and transfer stations. The idea is to have the advanced municipal solid waste management system being adopted in global cities, in Hyderabad.

Under the initiative, all the old and rickety garbage trucks will be replaced with advanced compactors in the city in a month, the Minister said.

Ramky CEO M. Gowtham Reddy said one year back the Minister had visited the transfer station at Krishnakanth Park and expressed unhappiness over the state of conditions.

He directed us that the entire transfer stations should be operated in closed sheds to avoid inconvenience to residents in the neighbouring areas. Accordingly, the modern transfer stations are coming up across the city, he said.

The MSW Collection & Transport Project implemented by HiMSW Limited at Hyderabad is the most technologically advanced and environmentally sustainable MSW Collection and Transport system in India. Coupled with the newly inaugurated Waste to Energy Plant, Hyderabad now has the most advanced MSW Management system in India, and is comparable to the best in the world.

The Project comprises a network of fully mechanised Secondary Collection and Transport Points (SCTPs) located across the City; select strategically located Transfer Stations serving larger catchments; and the most modern, technology enabled Fleet of high-capacity waste collection, containment, and transport vehicles to have been deployed in India.

The Fleet that has been deployed is based on large capacity (35 GVW) Benz vehicles with fully integrated IOT sensors, telemetry and advanced safety systems such as Driver Awareness System and numerous other safety and efficiency innovations. This is the first time such smart vehicles, coupled with 20 cubic meter capacity Portable Self Compactors (PSCs); and 24 cubic meter capacity hermetically sealed waste containers, are being used for secured waste conveyance in India.

A dedicated Command & Control Centre remotely tracks and reports on the performance of this smart Waste Collection & Transport system on a 24×7 basis.

Compared to other cities which have over 40 lakh population in the country,  Hyderabad bagged 17th rank in Swachh Survekshan and the idea is to improve the ranking further, he said.

The decentralization of transfer stations will aid in more effective collection and transportation of municipal waste. GHMC is setting up 90 mini Collection and Transfer Points (CTPs) and of these 10 have already been set up. This will make the Swachh Auto Tippers to collect the waste from the colonies and dump the same at the mini CTPs doing away with the earlier practice of dumping the waste at 17 transfer stations across the city.  The advanced compactors that are launched today will collect the waste from secondary collections and transport points.

One compactor truck will clear the waste collected by 30 Swachh Auto tippers a day, Ramky CEO M. Gowtham Reddy.

Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and others spoke on the occasion.
