Karimnagar: Incessant rain paralysed normal life across the erstwhile Karimnagar district on Wednesday, forcing people indoors as continuous drizzle and heavy showers lashed the region.

Several parts of Karimnagar, Jagtial, Peddapalli and Rajanna-Sircilla districts recorded heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. Huzurabad mandal reported the highest rainfall at 21 cm, followed by V. Saidapur with 11 cm and Shankarapatnam with 10 cm. Paddy stocks, kept in procurement centres and along roadsides, were soaked in rainwater, causing distress among farmers.

Following the heavy rain triggered by Cyclone Montha, a control room was set up at the Karimnagar Collectorate. Residents were asked to contact officials for assistance by dialling 0878-2997247.

In a statement, Collector Pamela Satpathy urged people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. She advised citizens not to cross culverts or venture near water bodies, and cautioned fishermen against entering lakes or rivers for fishing.

The Collector directed officials to remain on high alert and continuously monitor water levels in reservoirs and streams. In Jagtial, Collector B. Satya Prasad appealed to residents to remain vigilant in light of the continuing heavy rainfall.
